November Student of the Month: Bonnie
This November, we’re thrilled to honor Bonnie as Twisted Grit Yoga’s Student of the Month! Her dedication to wellness, adventurous spirit, and kind-hearted presence make her an inspiring part of our community. Here’s a look at Bonnie’s journey with yoga, her approach to wellness, and the wisdom she’s gained along the way.
Why Twisted Grit Yoga?
For Bonnie, Twisted Grit Yoga feels like home. “I couldn’t be happier that I joined Twisted Grit when Amy opened her doors!” she shared. Bonnie loves the welcoming and supportive energy cultivated by Amy and the TGY staff. With a warm atmosphere (literally!) and a variety of classes, Bonnie feels that TGY offers everyone a pathway to wellness.
Bonnie’s Yoga Journey
Bonnie began her yoga journey about 12 years ago, initially seeking physical fitness and a way to relieve work stress. But over time, her practice evolved into something more profound. “Yoga has been a lifesaver for me; it has definitely changed my life for the better,” she says. She credits Amy’s passion for keeping her motivated, especially during those early 5:30 am classes when she’d “retreat to the back corner to pretend that I knew what I was doing!”
What started as a fitness journey soon became a practice that offered mental and spiritual benefits, too. With TGY’s diverse classes, Bonnie is able to keep her practice fresh while staying on her healing path.
Life Beyond Yoga
Bonnie and her husband are seasoned travelers, enjoying time each year in Florida, Michigan, and Myrtle Beach. They’re also dedicated Green Bay Packers fans, with season tickets to cheer on their team. Bonnie’s love of cooking and baking rounds out her passions, and she treasures time spent with her two adult sons who live in the Madison area.
Wellness Goals and Journey
Bonnie’s commitment to wellness shines through her approach to overcoming challenges. After breaking her wrist a few years ago, Bonnie’s first question was, “How long before I can practice yoga again?” Through her recovery, she learned the power of using yoga props—especially foam blocks. “Don’t be afraid to use any and all props,” she encourages. “They can really enhance your practice!”
Recently, Bonnie’s yoga breathing techniques proved invaluable during a medical test that required her to stay in an enclosed space for over 30 minutes. Focusing on her breath helped her stay calm and centered. “I’m not sure I could have done it without my yoga breath,” she reflected. Her story reminds us of the ways yoga can support us beyond the mat.
Bonnie’s Mantra
In each class, Bonnie practices with the mantra “kind thoughts, kind words, kind actions.” This simple yet powerful dedication guides her, keeping her grounded in kindness every day.
Advice for Newcomers to TGY
To anyone thinking of trying a class at Twisted Grit, Bonnie’s advice is simple: “Don’t be afraid to try the unknown, and TGY is just the place for you to do it. There will be no judgment, you will benefit physically and mentally, and you will probably gain a friend or two in the process!”
We’re so grateful to have Bonnie in our community and for her continued dedication to her practice. Her warmth, resilience, and kindness inspire us all. Join us this month in celebrating Bonnie! Thank you for being such a bright light in the studio, Bonnie!
